One of Only Two Known

Mint State Bicentennial Eisenhower Dollars were struck on clad planchets at the Denver Mint in 1976. Somehow, a 40% Silver planchet was accidentally mixed with the clad planchets resulting in a Silver Bicentennial Ike Dollar.

Look for a Silver or Copper Stripe

If your Ike dollar has an “S” mint mark on the obverse, it is silver clad, or 40% silver. You can also check the edge of the coin for a silver stripe. If you find one, you most likely have a 40% silver, or silver clad Eisenhower dollar.

The coin was minted in the years 1975 and 1976 and carried the dual dates of 1776-1976. During the release of the Bicentennial coinage, no coins of this denomination carried the single date of 1975 or 1976. The reverse of this coin replaced the eagle reverse of the Washington coin during 1975 and 1976.

Look for deviations from a standard bicentennial quarter, such as doubling, off-center strikes or other anomalies.
