Ash's Pikachu is incredibly powerful inPokémon. Pikachu beat many foes, from Team Rocket to other opposingPokémon, and has even fought LegendaryPokémon.

Despite its many victories so far, there are somePokémon that Pikachuhas lost to, or would be currently too powerful for Pikachu to handle. From Cynthia's Garchomp currently being too strong for Pikachu to fight, to Cameron's Lucario evolving midway through the battle and deflecting Pikachu's Electro Ball with its Aura Sphere, Pikachu would need a lot more training to be strong enough to beat these opponents onhis own.
10 Cynthia's Garchomp Currently Is Too High Of A Level For Pikachu To Handle
Ash has not foughtChampion Cynthia and her Garchomp yet, but Cynthia'sGarchomp would be way too strong for Pikachu to take down. Considering that four of Paul's ownPokémon, including his Torterra, fell to Cynthia's Garchomp in one hit, Ash's Pikachuwould likely go down the same way they did.
Despite it being a long time since Ash met Cynthia and later became Alola's champion, Ash and Pikachu still have a lot of growing to do before they can challenge Cynthia and win.
9 Eternatus Would Be Impossible To Beat Alone For Anyone, Let Alone Pikachu
During Journeys,Eternatuswoke up thanks to Chairman Rose's efforts. Ash, Goh, and Leon all worked together along with Zacian and Zamazenta to finally weaken Eternatus enough so they could catch it in aPoké Ball. Alone, none of these trainers and theirPokémon would win.
Even Leon, despite being an experienced, undefeatable Champion with a powerful Charizard, struggled to catch and weaken Eternatus. If Ash and Pikachu went up against Eternatus alone, the match would end up getting dangerously destructive for them.
8 Leon's Charizard Was Too Overpowering For Pikachu Thanks To Its Experience
Ash and Leon had a friendly match with each other, with Ash pitting Pikachu against Leon's Charizard. Considering that Leon was already established to be the World Champion, and with him and his Charizard coming off from a recent win streak of past battles, it was obvious that Pikachu would lose against Leon's Charizard.

Even though Pikachu managed to get a few hits in on Leon's Charizard and even attempted being in a Dynamax form, Leon and his Charizard were too experienced in battling and using Dynamax for Pikachu to handle, resulting in its defeat.
7 Gary's Electivire Won When It Last Fought Pikachu
The last time Ash and Gary fought each other in a close match was during the episode "Home Is Where The Start Is," where Gary brought out his Electivire while Ash sent out Pikachu. Despite Pikachu's best efforts and Electivire being the same Electric-type as Pikachu, Electivire managed to get the edge in battle.
It first blocked Pikachu's Volt Tackle with a Protect move before knocking it out with Thunder Punch. Viewers hope that Ash and Gary have a rematch in the future, even though Gary is now a Researcher rather than an active trainer.
6 Cameron's Lucario Beat Pikachu In A Close Match
Cameron's Riolu luckily evolved into Lucario during his match against Ash in the Unova League's Vertress Conference, shocking Cameron, Ash, and everyone watching at the time. Despite Cameron initially being at a disadvantage, his Riolu evolving into Lucario gave him an edge and beat out several of Ash'sPokémon until only Pikachu was available for battle.
Pikachu was already tired out from fighting Cameron's Samurott and Swanna earlier in the match against Cameron, so it was easy for Lucario to defeat Pikachu with a powerful Aura Sphere strong enough to push back Pikachu's Electro Ball.
5 Pikachu Would Not Be Able To Win Against Mewtwo Alone
Mewtwo is one of the most powerful LegendaryPokémon, and its psychic abilities would make it difficult for Pikachu to beat. When Ash and Goh met Mewtwo in the episode "Getting More Than You Battled For," Ash's Pikachu, Ash's Lucario, and Goh's Cinderace were soundly defeated by Mewtwo's powerful attacks, including a gigantic Shadow Ball.

In addition to Mewtwo winning easily over Pikachu and Cinderace at the time,it was powerful enough in the first movie to create its ownPoké Balls to capture Pikachu with. Considering Mewtwo's vast powers and abilities, it will be a long time before Pikachu is strong enough to beat it in battle.
4 Viola's Surskit Overcame Its Type Advantage& Soundly Beat Pikachu
Despite Pikachu having the type advantage since Pikachu was an Electric-type while Surskit was part Water-type, Viola's Surskit won in a match against Pikachu. Viola smartly ordered it to use Protect to defend itself from Pikachu's attacks while jumping around the battlefield and freezing it with Ice Beam.
Pikachu struggled to stay standing on the ice, while Surskit easily slid around, giving it an advantage, and it defeated Pikachu with Signal Beam. Ash won against Surskit in a later match with Pikachu, but despite this win, Surskit is still stronger than Pikachu since Viola knew how to turn its disadvantages into advantages over type-advantaged Pokémon.
3 Jeanette's Bellsprout Shockingly Won Against Pikachu
When Ash battled Jeanette at the KantoPokémon League, her Bellsprout took Ash and Pikachu by surprise. Despite Bellsprout being usually portrayed as a weakPokémon, this Bellsprout differed by actually defeating Pikachu.

Since Bellsprout was a Grass-type, it had the type advantage of Pikachu being an Electric-type, and it was strong enough to bear both Pikachu and Ash's Bulbsaur's attacks before defeating each of them with a strong tap on the head. This was one of Pikachu's worst defeats, but it also showed that even the seemingly weak-lookingPokémon should not be underestimated.
2 Sabrina's Kadabra Overwhelmed Pikachu With Its Psychic Attacks
When Ash first fought Sabrina, he brought out Pikachu to fight Sabrina's Psychic-type Abra. However, Abra evolved into Kadabra partway through the battle and overwhelmed Pikachu so much with its attacks that Ash was forced to forfeit the match.
Considering that Pikachu was still fresh into its journey of battling at the time, it was obvious that Pikachu would have a tough time. If Ash ever fought Sabrina again in the future, however, the outcome might change since he and Pikachu gained much more experience since then.
1 Anthony's Hitmonchan Easily DefeatedPikachu Over A Misunderstanding
Ash accidentally mistook Anthony's Hitmonchan to be a wildPokémon and made Pikachu try to fight it in the episode "The PunchyPokémon." However, Anthony, who dreamed of becoming a P1 Grand Prix Champion, was unamused at this.
As payback for Pikachu and Ash attacking Hitmonchan in the first place, he promptly ordered Hitmonchan to knock out Pikachu. Pikachu stood no chance against Hitmonchan's punches, and this led to an awkward defeat for both Pikachu and its trainer.
